The Cause
The Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini (SAT) was founded in Madonna di Campiglio in 1872 under the name Società Alpina del Trentino. The founding members wanted to promote the knowledge of the Trentino mountains, the tourism development of the valleys and the "Italianness" of Trentino. The means to pursue these goals were: the construction of shelters, the construction of paths, funding for hoteliers, organization of mountain guides, ascension of peaks and publication of geographical and mountaineering writings.
In 1920 the SAT became a section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), whilst remaining an autonomous entity.
