The Prize

Picasso explored the theme of the Studio several times throughout his career, each time with renewed vigour and inspiration. This representation of his studio “La Californie” is done in light, short strokes echoing the rhythm of the bay-window arches, which are contrasted with the rectangle of the canvas on the easel. On the right, the branching lamp stand has taken on the aspect of a Calder mobile and seems to provide a frame to the composition.

This piece is a fully authenticated original colour lithograph from 1955 and comes with a condition report and appraisal.
