Weald & Downland Living Museum

Founded in 1970, the award-winning Weald & Downland Living Museum is one of England's leading museums of historic buildings. Set within 40 acres of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex, the Museum is home to more than 50 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings, dating from 950 AD to the 19th century. Together with period gardens, traditional farm animals and a working mill pond, the site offers visitors an immersive journey through a thousand years of rural life in south-east England.

Education is at the heart of the Museum's mission. Each year, it welcomes between 20,000 and 25,000 schoolchildren, alongside learners of all ages and abilities. Its commitment to high-quality heritage education has been recognised through both the Sandford Award for Heritage Learning and the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge.

Focusing on the rich history of rural life and its continuing relevance today, the Museum's curriculum-linked workshops bring the past to life through expert storytelling, immersive hands-on activities and outdoor learning. Students also have the opportunity to explore the historic site itself, where buildings spanning from the Anglo-Saxon period to the Edwardian era provide a unique setting for discovering how people lived, worked and shaped the landscape across the centuries.
