The New York Pops
The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States and the only professional symphonic orchestra in New York City specializing in popular music. Led by Music Director Steven Reineke, the orchestra performs an annual subscription series at Carnegie Hall, enjoying one of their highest subscription renewal rates. The New York Pops’ annual birthday gala is celebrated each spring, raising funds for the orchestra and its PopsEd education programs, which reach more than 6,500 New Yorkers each year. The New York Pops 35th Birthday Gala celebrates the work of the remarkable composer Alan Menken, who is responsible for the music of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Newsies and more. In addition to a gala concert and dinner in New York City on April 30, 2018, the orchestra hosts an online auction to raise funds for the orchestra and its many PopsEd music education programs. These programs take place in schools around New York City, offering students who might not otherwise come into contact with the arts a valuable opportunity to sing, play an instrument or participate in a musical theatre production. All funds raised through the auction are dedicated to our programs.
