Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS

Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli, inaugurated in 1964 and named after Father Agostino Gemelli, is today one of Italy’s leading hospitals and a centre of excellence for healthcare, medical research, and education.

Recognised as an IRCCS (Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalisation and Healthcare) by the Italian Ministry of Health for personalised medicine and innovative biotechnology, it is a reference centre in central and southern Italy for numerous complex conditions and rare diseases. Since 2021, Newsweek magazine has ranked it among the best hospitals in the world, and in 2026 it confirmed its position as the top hospital in Italy.

The mission of the Foundation is to provide outstanding care based on compassion, innovation, and highly specialised expertise, while also training the healthcare professionals of the future.

With more than 102,000 patients discharged every year and 1,150 researchers, Gemelli integrates healthcare, research, and education on a daily basis, promoting a constantly evolving model of medicine. Its main areas of excellence include oncology, neurodegenerative and ageing-related diseases, paediatric neuromuscular disorders, cardiology, and gastroenterology.
