Comitato Maria Letizia Verga Onlus per lo Studio e la Cura della leucemia del bambino

The Comitato Maria Letizia Verga Onlus for the study and treatment of child leukemia, founded in 1979, brings together parents, friends and health professionals with the aim of offering children with leukemia treated at the Pediatric Clinic of the Milano Bicocca University of Monza—Monza and Brianza Foundation for the Child and Mother—the most appropriate medical and psycho-social assistance in order to guarantee the highest possible chances of healing and the best quality of life. All this is on the basis of an alliance between doctors, health workers, parents and volunteers.

The treatment of leukemia requires not only very advanced medical knowledge, sophisticated medical equipment and extremely qualified professional assistance, but also the support of appropriate facilities that allow for carrying out of research, diagnostics and therapy.

In addition to traditional therapy, a fundamental role is the psychological and social aspect of the child and his family.

"The therapeutic alliance" is the methodology that, in addition to ensuring cutting-edge care, offers the psycho-social assistance necessary along the therapeutic path.

The alliance involves health workers, volunteers, the child and his/her family. It represents the common feeling of those who, working together, make themselves available so that they can more effectively cope with the disease, overcoming structural, economic and organizational difficulties.
