"The Cal": the 2011 Pirelli Calendar with a personalised dedication from Alberto Pirelli!

This auction is for an original and limited edition 2011 Pirelli Calendar: they are unavailable for purchase and were only given to a handful of important Pirelli customers and VIPs. For this reason it is a precious heirloom, characterized by images of a certain charm.

The calendar is an original and is in excellent condition.

Alberto Pirelli, the great-grandson of Giovanni Battista Pirelli (the founder of the group), is available to sign a personal dedication on the calendar to the winner.

Karl Lagerfeld, the world-renowned artist and designer, was the creative director for the 2011 calendar. He called the calendar Mythology.

In his Paris studio, Lagerfeld created Mythology, a calendar that reflects one of his deepest passions: the legends and myths of the greek and Roman mythology, the story of the origin of man and the world through the adventures of gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines. On a trip back in time through the universal language of photography, "Mythology" takes us back to the roots of classical civilization. The 36 photos that make up the 2011 Calendar show 24 different subjects, including gods, heroes and myths. All photographs are in black and white, a choice that gives character to the images, exalts the beauty of the bodies through the strong color contrast and gives three-dimensionality to the figures through the clever use of lighting. "Actresses and models bring these new heroes to life and depict a new concept of beauty," says Karl
Lagerfeld proposes, through the 2011 Pirelli Calendar, an idealistic representation of immortal beauty. Beauty, youth, worship and desire depict the new concept of beauty and embody the modernity in mythology.

There are 21 involved in this edition: 15 female models and 5 male. The women include the American actress Julianne Moore, the Italians Bianca Balti and Elisa Sednaoui, the Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen, the Brazilian Isabeli Fontana (already photographed in the 2005 Calendar by Patrick Demarchelier and in 2009 by Peter Beard), the Polish Magdalena Frackowiak and Anja Rubik, the Australian Abbey Lee Kershaw (who debuted in the 2010 Calendar by Terry Richardson), the Indian Lakshmi Menon, the US Heidi Mount and Erin Wasson (who debuted in the 2005 Calendar by Patrick Demarchelier), the Russian Natasha Poly, the Dutch Lara Stone and the Canadian Daria Werbowy (already chosen by Peter Beard in calendar 2009), the Austrian Iris Strubegger and Jamaican Jeneil Williams. The men include the French Baptiste Giabiconi and Sebastian Jondeau, Americans Brad Kroenig and Garrett Neff and English Jake Davis.

The Cause

Nobel a Mogol (NaM), or Nobel to Mogol, is a nonprofit organization founded by three friends, Nanco Paoletti and journalists Milo Goj and Nestar Tosini. For years they have interpreted and studied the lyrics of the late, famous Italian singer Lucio Battisti, whose songs were written by Giulio Rapetti Mogol. Mogol has also written songs for many other Italian singers that have become great successes over the past 50 years: from Bobby Solo to Little Tony, Riccardo Cocciante and Adriano Celentano.

As they studied Mogol's songs, the three literati reached the conclusion that many of his texts were in all regards authentic poetry. If poetry means turning feelings, moods and states of being into words, then Mogol is certainly a great poet. Such verses as, "When sadness falls upon the depth of your heart, like the falling snow it make not a sound," leave nothing to be desired. They are right on par with even the most well-known and appreciated "traditional" poetry. He has written so many of such verses that a publication of them should be made.

Mogol is therefore a great poet whose works match up to those of other Nobel prize authors. The Nobel to Mogol Association aims precisely at persuading public opinion to create a movement to nominate Giulio Rapetti Mogol for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
