Anlaids Onlus

Anlaids is one of the first associations set up in Italy to counter the spread of HIV infection.
It was founded in 1985 by a group of doctors, researchers, journalists, activists and volunteers, driven by the need to "network".
The mission of Anlaids has always been the prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted infections, information, support for research, including social research and the fight against stigma.

Our activities include:
the National Schools Project, centered on Peer education, operating since 2003, which involved 80 high schools in 2019, reaching about 20,000 students throughout Italy.
The rapid HIV test project, administered through various Anlaids offices, which also takes part in the Milan CheckPoint.

Providing correct information via telephone lines, forums, applications, counseling and psychological support, aid for the most vulnerable and protection of rights to diagnostics and care.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Anlaids has been operating support action for the community: in April 10.000 reusable masks were produced and donated to Third Sector Entities that care for people in extremely vulnerable conditions.
In recent months we have all been involved and called to respond to an important health emergency, just like in 1983 when HIV virus was isolated for the first time and the fight against stigma and fear began. Those difficult years led to a greater awareness and the strength of Research has been able to achieve important goals and Prevention has proved to be the only effective means of limiting the spread of viruses. Lowering our guard now would mean wasting years of good practice and experience.
