Federica Galli, a leading figure Italian engraving art, was born in Soresina and graduated in painting in 1950 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera. She quickly realized that engraving was her prefered artform and decided that would be where she focussed her passion.

Discovered in the 70s by the critic Gianni Testori, under his guidance she began exhibiting in Italy and abroad, where she won acclaim from the public and critics for the high technical and interpretative quality of her works.

She was the first living artist to exhibit at the Cini Foundation in Venice in 1987, at the Civic Museum of Palazzo Te in Mantua in 1987, at the Sforzesco Castle in Milan in 1988 and in the Imperial Archives of the Forbidden City in 1995.

Among collectors of her works are Dino Buzzati, Leonardo Sciascia and Francois Mitterand.

When Federica Galli engraved she concentrated on three themes: landscapes - mainly of the Lombard plain; views of Milan and Venice seen through an acute and authentic gaze; trees.

Her passion for nature and her technical ability allowed her to overcome typical obstacles for engravers, such as decipting snow, night and fog, managing to display them without falling into the trap of affectation.

Federica Galli passed away in 2009 leaving a foundation that operates to spread understanding about the art of engraving. In 2019 she was registered in the Monumental Memorial Chapel of Milan and in 2021 the city will dedicate a large retrospective exhibition to the artist at Palazzo Morando.
