The Prize

This auction is for the book 'The World Until Yesterday', signed by Pulitzer Prize winning (2009) author Jared Diamond. It is an essay written in English by Diamond, an American biologist and evolutionary physiologist.

In the book, Diamond argues that tribal people (in what he calls 'traditional societies') contemporarily provide an insight into human society because the way they live now is very similar to the way humanity lived 11 000 years ago. This includes learning about different approaches to conflict resolution, the treatment of the elderly, children, the benefits of multilingualism and lower salt intakes.

Proceeds from this auction will support WWF European Alpine Programme.

The Cause

WWF European Alpine Programme (EALP) aims to preserve the Alps through a supranational approach and the identification of priority habitats and species.

The program Alpine Committee (EALP) was born out of a cross-border project of species protection involving the national organizations of the WWF Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France and Italy. The goal is international cooperation for the conservation of plant and animal biodiversity in the Alpine region.

This year WWF EALP decided to promote a campaign for the wolf and, to do so, they have signed a partnership agreement with the Tour of Italy, becoming the Official Charity for 2015.
