The Suggs Denim Bear

A unique handmade bear made from a pair of jeans donated by Suggs.

The bear was created as part of The Great Teddy Bear Project, which features 21 uniquely crafted teddy bears made from jeans donated by famous names from the worlds of music, TV and OUTER SPACE!

Handmade by Canterbury Bears at their workshop in the Kentish countryside, each bear is embroidered with the signature of the celebrity whose jeans they are made from.

The project is organised in support of Together for Short Lives, the UK’s leading charity for the 99,000 children with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition and their families.

About Suggs:

National treasure, Suggs (aka Graham McPherson) is one of British music’s most well-known personalities. Loved for his role as the lead singer of Madness, his many hats include presenting on radio and television, acting in films, and recording and performing as a solo artist. Over a varied
and eclectic career, standout moments have included performing live with Madness on the roof of Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and playing at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. As a patron of Children in Need, Suggs has frequently appeared on the
charity’s annual fundraising TV marathon, while in recent years he has also been an active supporter of Cancer Research UK and Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The Cause

CALM
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against male suicide – the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. CALM runs a free and confidential helpline and webchat – 7 hours a day, 7 days a week – for anyone who needs to talk about life’s problems, as well as supporting those bereaved by suicide and working in the community to reengage with people before they reach the point of crisis.

The charity actively campaigns via the media to spread awareness of suicide and challenge male stereotypes, using cultural touch points like art, music, sport and comedy.

Together for Short Lives

Together for Short Lives is the UK’s leading charity for the 49,000 children living with life-limiting conditions.

The charity wants to help every child and family living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition get the very best care and support they can so they can make the most of every moment together. Many of these children have complex conditions and need specialist care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Together for Short Lives runs a helpline to support families and champions improvements in palliative care, supporting a network of children’s hospices across the UK.
