Cecilia Viganò, "Untitled", “Racconti vegetali” series, Work in progress 2014-2020.

Vegetable tracing and Graphite on 2 sheets of paper measuring 9 x 13,5 cm.

Cecilia Viganò (Cevì), born in 1982, graduated with a degree in Painting from the Brera Academy in Milan.

This multifaceted artist expresses herself through drawing, performance and installations. She has exhibited in various festivals, Italian galleries and at the permanent theater of Verona.

Cecilia Viganò's artistic research starts from listening attentively to daily life and personal memories, moving towards the exploration of collective and shared memories. The path gradually moves from the inside to the outside, in search of sharing, to question others and actively involve them in the artistic action. Imagination, the primary engine behind the artistic process, is told through drawing, the most immediate form of communication, combined with the delicacy and simplicity of the materials. Since 2014, she has collected and preserved natural elements found by chance in the pages of her travel notebooks: the sheets have remained impregnated with the vital substances of these plants, giving life to the beginning of a story. After a few years of waiting and maturing, she listened to these natural traces and let the drawing complete the narration, letting new images emerge.

This artwork is part of the Viva la Vulva by Nuvenia project: a collective exhibition by international artists that aims to break down taboos linked to the female body in conjunction with an online charity auction in favor of the Italian Red Cross. The works will be on display at Six Gallery in Milan from 9 to 11 October.

"We are born free from taboos. We live in a society that forces them upon us, feeding stereotypes. Talking about them helps to break them down and learn to accept each other: because we are all perfect precisely because we are different".
