Born in Mantua on March 16, 1912, Giulio Turcato was an Italian painter, a leading figure in Italian informal abstraction.

Turcato's exhibitions and critical acclaim are second to none in Italian art of the 20th century. He also exhibited at the Biennale in 1954, 1956, 1958 (personal room and winner of the National Award), 1966 (personal room), 1968 , 1972 (personal room), 1982, 1986, 1988, 1993 and one last time in 1995, bringing his appearances at the Venetian exhibition to 15.

In 1951 he won the first prize at the Premio del Golfo in La Spezia, with the work "Cantiere", now exhibited at the Center of Modern and Contemporary Art (CAMeC). In 1953 he won an award at the first edition of the Spoleto Prize.

He has exhibited with solo shows all over the world, including the documenta reviews in Kassel and the San Paolo Biennale. Among the museums, he exhibited at the MoMA in New York, the Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan, the Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst in Munich, the Musée de l'Athenée in Geneva, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and many others.
