Antonio Bueno was an Italian painter of Spanish descent.

In 1937 he exhibited his works at the Salon des Jeunes in Paris. Then, in 1940 with his brother Xavier, he moved to Italy. Following some post-impressionist experience, he joined the Gregorio Sciltian school of artists in the post-war period, producing trompe-l'œil works, and became part of the "Modern Painters of Reality" group, along with his brother and Annigoni.

An avid and restless experimenter, following his early experiences he carried out a great deal of research. The best known pieces from his eclectic body of work are his portraits of busts and rounded heads, boys dressed in sailor's outfits, firefighters, and reinterpretations of historic works of art - all with rounded, simplified and neotenic features.

Bueno received consecration as an artist at the Venice Biennale in 1984 when he was already seriously ill, just a few months before his death. At the exhibition he displayed a series of works that represented the pinnacle of his and artistic maturity.
