"In Havana, I had an appointment in a house with an underground antiques dealer. I stumbled on this delicate cercamic sculpture of an archer with his bow stretched upwards, with his arrow holder on his back, wearing boots and a leopard-print cloth of remarkable detail, just like the detail of the face." Alviero Martini

Ceramic sculpture of archer by Giovanni Ronzan.

Giovanni Ronzan was born in 1906, in the Vicenza area, the cradle of Venetian ceramics and, following the death of his father during the First World War, soon became head of the family.

He started working at a very young age at the Bonato ceramics firm in Bassano and, after attending professional sculpture courses at the Technical Institute of Nove, he went to Milan, where he started working as a ceramist at the Fabris porcelain factory. In 1939 he started his own business, founding the first ceramics company Ronzan.
