The Prize

Treat yourself to a piece of sustainable design from the capsule collection presented during Milan Design Week.

These eco-friendly armchairs have been described as "unique collector's items" by Corriere della Sera newspaper.

The Mirab armchair is one of a kind, created as part of the socio-cultural project Please Sit for Sartoria Migrante by Connecting Cultures. It was conceived by designer Denise Bonapace and made with recycled materials and regenerated and sustainable fabrics by Yasin, a skilled artisan from Pakistan. The fabric wraps around the armrests and the back of the armchair and, when unrolled at the back transforms into a mat with another seat.

A fine example of creativity that combines Italian design and artisanal know-how, Mirab is a metaphor for inclusion and sharing.
Each armchair comes complete with a passport that tells its story and defines its uniqueness, specifying its origin, fabric, the name and the country of origin of the craftsman who made it. These items were exhibited at Connecting Cultures in Milan.

The Cause

Founded in 2001 in Milan, Italy, the association Connecting Cultures is dedicated to promoting social, cultural, and environmental sustainability through art and design. The association has become known for its work in fostering new and inclusive solutions to the complex and multifaceted issues of sustainability – issues that we, as active global citizens, feel it is our duty to address.

Our vision is to create a vibrant community of diverse individuals who are inspired by our message and who understand, support, and actively work towards a sustainable future. We accomplish this through platforms for discussion, research and education and projects that train young professionals to work together with these aims in mind.

Connecting Cultures is a recognized expert in sustainable fashion and the redefinition of public spaces in marginalized rural and urban areas within Italy. In addition, Connecting Cultures publishes papers and books on thought leadership, curates art exhibitions, and organizes conferences, seminars, and workshops, all with the sole aim of utilizing art and design to raise awareness and empower local communities in Italy and beyond to act sustainably.
