The Prize

"Note a colori" by Mimmo Iacopino.

  • Technique: scraps of musical scores and velvet, satin and lurex ribbon on canvas
  • Dimensions: 30 x 30 cm
  • Year: 2016

Mimmo Iacopino was born in Milan where he still lives and works. It takes rigor, visionary sensitivity, the ability to reinvent and a bit of madness. You have to be determined to demolish the common vision in order to be able to propose a new and different one, which upsets the canons of normal interpretation in order to delve into something else and unearth what is below - or perhaps above -, what is elsewhere, pull it out and make it concrete, visible and tangible.

In Mimmo Iacopino's works, born in Milan in 1962, the unit of measurement sheds its unbending mathematical connotations and becomes an integral part of a dimension that makes it the leading element in a new idea, an idea that weaves and intersects it with meticulous precision with the world of art and, so doing, males it eternal and immutable.

The fabric - cotton thread or velvet ribbon - is an extension of the artist's fingers and eyes, which offer plays of color and perfectly calibrated shades, drawing three-dimensionality that is the result of artistic research that was conceived many years ago and has changed over time, following the natural process of evolution and depth.

Among the prizes and recent mentions, his work received recognition at the PROMOCARD competition, held during MiArt 2007; he received a diploma in 2008 in Saint Petersburg at the Biennial VII International Festival of Experimental Art; he was a finalist in the COMBAT PRIZE Competition in Livorno in 2010. In addition to being present at the most famous national and international art fairs, such as MiArt in Milan, Art First in Bologna, Artissima in Turin, ArtVerona in Verona and Artforum in Berlin, Iacopino has also exhibited in various public and museum spaces, often in Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow and Minsk).
