The story of the photo is linked to life and death.

Pozzallo, July 2014. The “Grecale” ship belonging to the Italian Navy coming into the port of Pozzallo with 566 people on board, who had been rescued in the previous days in the Mediterranean Sea. In those days 45 people were found dead from suffocation in the hold of the boat that was carrying them.

In the photo this Syrian woman is a symbol of strength, the newborn of life. Life and death were in the same boat.
