The Cause

Associazione Gigi Ghirotti is an Italian charity created in 1984 and registered in Italy as an ONLUS (nonprofit organization). Its mission is to help people affected by cancer who are suffering in their homes. Since 1994, the charity has also been helping people affected by AIDS.

It has managed some residential centers that host patients who can't live in their home because of their illness (HOSPICE) in Genoa-Bolzaneto and Genoa-Albaro since 2002. This out-of-home care has been extended to people affected by ALS since 2010.

It is staffed by professional doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists and care workers. Care is completely free for the patients, and expenses are covered by private donations and contributions from the national healthcare system.
