The Italian tennis player defeated Serbian Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-4 in the Final of the tournament.

So Fognini took home the first ATP 1000 title of his career and the sought-after Montecarlo trophy returned to Italy 51 years after Italian Nicola Pietrangeli's victory. Following this triumph, Fabio fognini rises to 12th place in the ATP ranking and can now count 9 titles won in his career with this final trophy the most important and prestigious of them all.

Fognini's climb to the top step of the podium was a surprise after he risked being knocked out by Rublev in the first round. However, he went on to take advantage of Simon's withdrawal, going on to beat Zverev and Coric, as well as all-time great Rafa Nadal.

The Cause

The "Associazione AmicidiSean"—FriendsofSean Association—was founded to support Sean Hadfield and other people with his condition. Sean is a 24-year-old man who, at the age of 9, suffered an irreversible spinal cord injury, leaving him in a wheelchair. Due to the injury, he needs 24-hour care, which carries a high financial cost.

The objective of the association is to offer people with disabilities the highest quality of life possible with all the necessary care needed. The FriendsofSean Association also commits itself to giving a percentage of its funds raised to the Hospital Nacional de Paraplejicos de Toledo in Spain.
