"Love at Second Egg #2" by Alice Zanin.

Papier-mâché
24 x 36 x 27 cm
2020

The self-taught artist experimented with different expressive techniques including painting, until she chose to focus almost exclusively on the papier-mâché technique from the beginning of 2012. In the first part of her production, the artist builds an ironic conversation through animals of words based on the idea of the ephemeral, transitory and changeable within human value of the verbal element is fully evident.

Currently the artist's work, while remaining sculptural in all respects, tends to be more an installation in strictly exhibition terms, building a dialogue between works and objects on the basis of the incongruence or the association of ideas.

She has participated in personal and collective exhibitions and art fairs in Italy. Her works are part of private collections in Italy, Austria, Venezuela, USA and Canada. She lives and works in Podenzano, Italy.

"Love at Second Egg" refers to an unusual reproductive practice of some species of penguins, which still leaves biologists and ornithologists perplexed: having laid the first egg, they do not hatch it, preferring to devote all their energies to the second. The brooding activity is undoubtedly the most demanding for these birds, which never leave the eggs, thus having to exploit all the fat reserves accumulated during the year, which are less and less given the growing difficulty in obtaining nourishment due to well-documented climatic instabilities.

Project by Olimpia Rospigliosi curated by Bohdan Stupak. Between 14 and 22 July it will be possible to view the works exclusively on appointment at the Studio Rospigliosi in Piazza Borromeo 10 in Milan, Italy.
