The Prize

"Le rêveur" by Cécile Guicheteau.

Features:

  • Mixed media on canvas
  • Dimensions: 45x35 cm
  • Framed

The artwork:

The Ex Voto - typical of Neapolitan artistic tradition - is a symbol of human gratitude towards the divine. The artist's perception becomes further reaching with thiswork. Le rêveur (the dreamer) lives a state of grace, but in the present world constantly pays a price for it. His gratitude is for being able to maintain this slumbering, imaginary and dreamlike state, despite it all.

«The work of an artist evolves with him, the result is the cycle of the Ex Voto. After a shared experience in China, Grieco led me to discover an Italy unknown to me and I was increasingly fascinated by Naples and its mysteries: the sacred and the profane, poverty and immense human wealth, pain and happiness. I discovered that these things make a land great, capable of making you feel at home when you are just a guest. This understanding feels my soul and my works. "

The artist:

Cécile Guicheteau, 1974 Cholet (FR), is a French contemporary artist.

"They say that artists bear witness to their time. Maybe that's the case, but not me. I don't attempt to document anything. I think too many things in our time are painful, so I prefer bear witness to an imaginary and personal universe. Like the great masters who came before me, I paint with the utmost simplicity. I spend my life unlearning what the brain already knows and I let myself be guided by my young self in my work."
