Alpinista, scultore e scrittore italiano nasce a Baselga di Piné nel 1950). Trasferitosi nell’infanzia a Erto, luogo di origine della famiglia nella valle del Vajont, qui ha maturato un forte legame con la natura e il territorio che, dopo i tragici eventi del 1963, lo ha spinto a rintracciare e conservare storie e tradizioni del passato di quei luoghi.
La compenetrazione con gli elementi del paesaggio lo ha indotto a sperimentare modi distinti di contatto e manipolazione: così, parallelamente alla pratica dell’alpinismo (eccellente arrampicatore, C. ha aperto oltre 230 nuovi itinerari nelle Dolomiti d'Oltrepiave), ha sviluppato singolari abilità nell’intaglio del legno, in cui predilige scolpire corpi (drammatici, come quelli delle Crocefissioni, oppure intrisi di un senso fatato del mondo) inglobando il supporto nodoso del legno come parte integrante della rappresentazione, a restituire il senso di un’inscindibilità tra materia e discorso artistico.
