Founded in 1980 by the renowned, late breast cancer surgeon Umberto Veronesi, MD, and Italian businessman Alessandro di Montezemolo, the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) is a nonprofit organization based in New York that supports cancer research, education and control, emphasizing the outstanding resources of Italy and the United States, recognizing world-class scientific excellence in medicine, and serving medically-underserved New York City women through breast cancer screening, outreach and education.
AICF has two core programs: the Mobile, No-Cost Breast Cancer Screening Program provides free mammograms and clinical breast exams to medically-underserved women on a Mobile Care Clinic that travels the five boroughs of New York City, five days a week, year around; and the International Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Program funds innovative cancer research projects of young scientists who work and train in collaboration with mentors at major centers in the United States and Italy.
