The Prize

"Ready-made" attributed to Andy Warhol "Del Monte - Golden Sweet Corn" signed in permanent marker by the artist.

The UV light test carried out demonstrates that both the object and the signature react negatively to UV light, confirming that the materials and the ink are not modern but predate the 1990s (note the difference with the refraction produced by the modern white sheets that react to UV light by turning purple).

Andy Warhol, founder and leading figure of American Pop Art, was born in 1928 the son of a Russian family in Pennsylvania. He began his career as an artist creating advertising graphics. Already in 1956 he presented his graphic works at the Museum of Modern Art. In the early 1960s Warhol began experimenting with different techniques and began to focus on typically American consumer objects, such as Campbell's soup cans or Coca Cola bottles. In 1962 Warhol began with his series of portraits of famous stars, such as Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley, who were then at the peak of their careers. His renowned studio 'The Factory' has been a meeting point for internationally successful artists, actors and musicians. In the 1970s, galleries began to exhibit Warhol's work, which today is part of some of the most famous collections, such as the Modern Museum of Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London and the d'Art Moderne in Paris.

According to the eccentric Pop Artist, mass production led to a sort of democracy, whereby the poorest citizens consumed the same products as wealthier ones.
