The Prize

Damon Albarn’s career is comprised of multiple musical incarnations. He spent the 90s as frontman of Britpop band Blur producing eight studio albums and a string of hits including Song 2, Parklife, Girls and Boys, Coffee & Tea and Country House.

In 1998 Albarn launched the blockbusting, animated virtual band Gorillaz, featuring a host of guest artists including Lou Reed, Bobby Womack, Dennis Hopper, Neneh Cherry and Shaun Ryder.

2007 saw the debut album of supergroup, The Good, the Bad & the Queen made up of Albarn, the Clash’s Paul Simonon, The Verve’s Simon Tong, and Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen.

Albarn’s eclectic musical immersions also include collaborations with African musicians, an opera about the life of Dr John Dee, the Elizabethan alchemist, astronomer and geographer, and a piece of classical Chinese theatre, Monkey: A Journey to the West.
