Handcrafted traditional Togo mask created with the papier-mâché technique used by the masters of the Venice Carnival.

Dimensions: 38cm height, 21cm maximum width
Weight: 200 g
Colors: newspaper with black details
Unique piece

The “Chef du village - Newspaper” mask can be worn but also used as a decoration to hang or display on a flat surface.

The name is “Chef du village - Newspaper” (Head of the village - newspaper) because the design of a mask for a village head is left stripped of colors, except for the black which highlights the nose, lips, eyes and essential expressive lines.

The mask was created through a meticulous technique:

  1. Clay sculpture
  2. Clay mold (plaster casting)
  3. Clay extraction and mold finishing
  4. Laying of paper and gauze
  5. Post production (gluing, cutting of eyeholes, coloring)

The materials used are: glass mastic, alabaster plaster, newspaper, vaseline (to maintain the mold), vinyl glue, sandpaper, brushes, cans of acrylic color, beeswax.
