Jonathan Guaitamacchi was born in London in 1961, lives and works between Milan, London and Cape Town in South Africa. He graduated in painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, always keeping a passionate look and study in the architectural field. In 1997 he presented a solo exhibition at the Officina della Pressione in Milan, where he exhibited the large drawings made in the area of disused gas meters at Bovisa. In the same year, 1997, he won the ex-equo Suzzara Prize, then he was present with some works at the XIV Quadriennale in Rome.
2005 is the year of full recognition abroad, when his works are exhibited at the Beijing Biennial in China.
Known for his global visions, at the basis of his research there are the architectures of large cities that become inspiration, trace and subject. A painting characterized by the vision of apparently bichromatic urban volumes.
Metropolitan visions in black and white incisive and scratchy brushstrokes, wide glazing and layering of material color.
Known for his broad visions of global cities, urban landscapes and panoramic views from one place to another, Guaitamacchi paints landscapes whose essence and formal synthesis arise from memory, from the memory that binds the artist to the English territory and the Anglo-Saxon culture from which he comes. The imposing cliffs of Dover or the M25 (London ring road), become real passages, places that continuously stimulate the imagination of the artist.
