The Prize

Enjoy dinner for two in Castellamare di Stabia near Naples in the company of Giuseppe and Carmine Abbagnale.

The Abbagnale Brothers, together with the helmsman Giuseppe Di Capua, made up one of the most famous formidible coxed pair teams in the history of rowing, winning two Olympic titles (Los Angeles 1984 and Seul 1988) and seven world championships, competing together for a total of thirteen seasons, from 1981 to 1993.

Among the Italian brothers' many achievements is the unforgettable 1988 Seoul Olympic final when the Italian crew won gold by defeating Sir Stephen Redgrave and Andy Holmes' much feared English crew that ended up in third place behind the East German crew.

This experience is valid for two people and will take place within a year of auction closing on a date to be agreed according to avaliability of the Abbagnale brothers and the auction winner.

The Cause

“WE RUN TOGETHER – Supporting our team” is a sports initiative supporting two hospitals that have been at the heart of the fight against Covid-19, the Papa Giovanni XXIII in Bergamo and the Fondazione Poliambulanza in Brescia. The funds raised from the auctions will go to the medical and nursing staff of these two hospitals that have tirelessly looked after Coronavirus patients in recent months.

This campaign has received the extraordinary support and blessing of Pope Francis who is actively involved in the initiative by donating some of his own personal highly valuable and prestigious sports items. Besides the Pope, many internationally renowned athletes, companies and sports clubs have joined the cause because we’re stronger together.

WE RUN TOGETHER is promoted and organized by four organizations that have always been committed to promoting the value of sport as a tool for inclusion, sharing, dialogue and peace. These organizations are:

Atheltica Vaticana, the first sports club in Vatican City
Sports group Fiamme Gialle (Guardia di Finanza)
“Cortile dei Gentili”, department of the Pontifical Council for Culture (VA) to promote dialogue between believers and non-believers
FIDAL-Lazio, Lazio region Athletic Federation.
