The Prize

Work by Alessandro Padovan of the Drill Monkeys Art Duo.

The character's face is made up of approximately 2,500 self-tapping bronzed screws, while the body is a print applied to the panel. The dimensions of the artwork are 80 x 80 x 9 cm.

The work of art was on tour in Italy, in several cities including Rome, Pesaro, Siena, Genoa and Milan. It was ranked, along with another work by Alessandro Padovan, second at this Riarteco Tour. It was also on display at the 2017 Arte Genova show with the Giò Art Gallery of Lucca.

The Drill Monkeys duo originated in 2012 when Emanuele Palermo and Alessandro Padovan met (the former born in 1985, studied art; the latter born in 1983, studied technical design). Both are passionate about art, and each with his own stylistic path decided to experiment with a new language together using the technique of painting on screws. The work's intention is to break the customary boundary that separates painting from sculpture. The screws, inserted to varying degrees, give three-dimensionality to their works and have become the main medium through which their subjects take form. Every project is born out of a succession of experiences and the continuous search for new influences. The Duo has exhibited at La Galery, rue Du Chateau 06360 Eze (France), and in Italy at Galleria Ghiggini in Varese, Galleria Dozzi in Castelletto Ticino, Spazio Tadini in Milan, the 2015 Affordable Art Fair, the 2015 ArtExpo and on a barge at the Darsena sui Navigli. In March, 2016 they were invited by the Affordable Art Fair in Milan for an artistic performance.
