Born in Brindisi on February 25, 1982, Flavia Pennetta began her career as a professional in 2000, becoming internationally the first Italian player to enter the top ten in the world (2009) and the number one in the doubles ranking, partnered with G. Dulko (2010). Among the successes she has achieved are four victories in the Fed Cup with the national team (2006, 2009, 2010, 2013) and the Indian Wells tournament in 2014. She is the author of the autobiography Dritto al cuore (2011). In 2015 she won the U.S. Open, the first Italian to win the title, and immediately after the win announced her retirement from competition.
