He competed in the Sanremo 2022 Festival, 22 years after his last appearance as a competitor, with the song "Apri tutte le porte", written by Jovanotti. The song won third place in the final standings of the event, also winning the Lucio Dalla award assigned by the Press Room. In the same edition Morandi won the cover evening with a medley sung with Jovanotti.
