The Prize

Bottle of Rosso Gattinara, 1958 - Luigi Nervi & Figlio.

This wine, like all vintage wines in general, is subject to a multitude of variables that condition aging with the passing of time so as not to guarantee its drinkability.

Vintage wine is not to be considered as a product to be tasted, but as an emotion that brings with it the memories of a past time. It is first and foremost a valuable collector's item and, later, if you are lucky, a wine to savour.

Gattinara has always been an area suited to viticulture. its past is studded with natural disasters such as a terrible hailstorm on August 11, 1905. The storm swept everything away, including the vines. The winemakers of the time had to wait at least three years to start seeing the fruit of their renewed efforts.

It was precisely the year following this disaster, in 1906, that Luigi Nervi set up the winery. This is the historical area where wine vessels belonging to different eras, truncated cone vats, concrete tanks of the 1900s, sit alongside the modern steel tanks installed in the most recent part of the cellar, each intended for the production and aging of a particular wine.

Content: 70 cl
Volume: 13%

Please note: Preserved professionally for over 50 years in a special cellar, this is a collector's bottle, therefore the quality of the wine cannot be guaranteed.

The Cause

Croce Viola is a volunteer ambulance association based in Milan, Italy and founded in 1949.

It provides much-needed emergency services to the entire city but is entirely reliant on the goodwill of 120 volunteers, who give up their time to provide this vital service, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

In total, more than 30,000 hours of emergency assistance have been volunteered per year, saving lives as well as supplying essential patient transportation services and non-emergency medical on-call service.

Croce Viola also delivers comprehensive first aid training programs to both the public and to companies, giving people the knowledge to intervene in crucial situations where it matters most—such as the Heimlich maneuver when a person's airways are obstructed. Not only that, but Croce Viola is also committed to helping at local and community events to provide first aid and safety procedures.

The association has recently put together an innovative campaign to promote the importance of first aid among primary school children. This plan will be extended to older children in the future, teaching them the essentials of first aid, from the very basics all the way to cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

All these important projects, as well each one of the association’s ambulances, are funded entirely by charitable donations.
