The Prize

Bottle of Brunello di Montalcino, 2000 - Eredi Cellari.

This wine, like all vintage wines in general, is subject to a multitude of variables that condition aging with the passing of time so as not to guarantee its drinkability.

Vintage wine is not to be considered as a product to be tasted, but as an emotion that brings with it the memories of a past time. It is first and foremost a valuable collector's item and, later, if you are lucky, a wine to savour.

Brunello di Montalcino is made from the Sangiovese grape, a variety traditionally referred to as Brunello in this area. The regulations governing wine production dictate that the maximum production of grapes per hectare must be less than 8 tons/ha (approximately 52 hl/ha of wine). It also dictates the date of the wine being released onto the market, which is January 1st of the fifth year after harvesting. During this long period, the wine must spend at least two years in wooden barrels and age at least four months in the bottle. The Riserva wine must age at least 6 months in the bottle, and is released a year later onto the market.

Content: 75 cl
Volume: 13.5%

Please note: Preserved professionally in a special cellar, this is a collector's bottle, therefore the quality of the wine cannot be guaranteed.

The Cause

Croce Viola is a volunteer ambulance association based in Milan, Italy and founded in 1949.

It provides much-needed emergency services to the entire city but is entirely reliant on the goodwill of 120 volunteers, who give up their time to provide this vital service, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

In total, more than 30,000 hours of emergency assistance have been volunteered per year, saving lives as well as supplying essential patient transportation services and non-emergency medical on-call service.

Croce Viola also delivers comprehensive first aid training programs to both the public and to companies, giving people the knowledge to intervene in crucial situations where it matters most—such as the Heimlich maneuver when a person's airways are obstructed. Not only that, but Croce Viola is also committed to helping at local and community events to provide first aid and safety procedures.

The association has recently put together an innovative campaign to promote the importance of first aid among primary school children. This plan will be extended to older children in the future, teaching them the essentials of first aid, from the very basics all the way to cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

All these important projects, as well each one of the association’s ambulances, are funded entirely by charitable donations.
