"Autoritratto con gli occhi chiusi" by Giampaolo Russo.

Monotype
50 x 40 cm
2020

"Self-portrait with closed eyes" is a series of monotypes printed by different sizes of copper mold. The act of seeing and retracting with your eyes closed was born from the need for greater reflection on events that do not have an immediate response, it is the search for inner calm.

Giampaolo Russo was born in Zurich in 1974, lives in the province of Lecce and attended the Brera Academy in Milan from 1996 to 2000 where he graduated in painting. Important exhibitions include 2013 Galerie Rosenberg, Zurich 2012 Helmhaus Museum and Zurich 2010 National Portrait Gallery, London.

Engraving and printing work allow Russo to move from drawing to painting. The drypoint enhances the mark according to the force used to draw and hit the plate, acquiring new expressiveness on this surface. The use of ink to draw directly on the plate with brushes or fingers is a process that remains a mystery until printed. Many of the color lines or backgrounds are seen only on the printed sheet.

Project by Olimpia Rospigliosi curated by Bohdan Stupak. Between 14 and 22 July it will be possible to view the works exclusively on appointment at the Studio Rospigliosi in Piazza Borromeo 10 in Milan, Italy.
