Al Pacino, born Alfredo James Pacino (New York, 25th of April 1940), is an American actor, director and producer.
Known to be one of the most important actors in the movie history, Al Pacino has won the Oscar in 1993 (8 nominations in total) for his interpretation of colonel Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman. During his career he brought to life many historical characters, like the Gangster Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy (1972-1974-1990) by Francis Ford Coppola, Tony Montana in Scarface (1983), Carlito Brigante in Carlito's Way (1993), both movies by Brian De Palma and Benjamin Ruggiero in Donnie Brasco (1997) by Mike Newell.
Other roles for which he's well known are Frank Serpico in Serpico (1973) and the thief Sonny in Dog Day Afternoon (1975, both by Sidney Lumet), the liutenant of the robberies and murders Vincent Hanna in Heat (1995), the journalist Lowell Bergman in Insider (1999, by Michael Mann) and Satan in The Devil's Advocate (1997, di Taylor Hackford), not to forget the coach of the unlucky Sharks in Any Given Sunday (1999) by Oliver Stone. After studying theatre all his youth, he won many prizes for his interpretations on stage, where he had a preference for Shakespeare's roles (Richard III, Shylock, Hamlet, Julio Cesar): in the sixties he brought to life important plays by Bertolt Brecht, Eugene O'Neill, Oscar Wilde, David Mamet.
He played for the small screen for the tv series Angels in America (2003), where he won many prizes for the AIDS terminally ill Roy Cohn; he played Jack Kevorkian in the tv movie, directed by Barry Levinson and produced by HBO, You Don't Know Jack (2010). His colaboration with HBO continued in 2013 with Phil Spector, where Pacino performed the namesake producer.
