The Museo del Design Italiano is celebrating Triennale Milano’s centenary with an itinerary that starts from the institution’s foundation in 1923 as the Decorative Arts Biennale in Monza and extends to the development of technological, material and social researches that changed the identity, aesthetics and main features of Italian design.

The exhibition presents the iconic pieces in Triennale’s permanent collection, relating them to the history of the institution. The Museum accents the role that Triennale has always played in promoting exchange, hospitality and debate, and showcasing the arts. The story of Italian design is told through the reconstruction of various interiors whose logic represented a fundamental line of development in the discipline, and through items that are present in the collection or the fruit of strategic agreements with organizations and other institutions.

The last stretch of the Curva, the curved space that houses the Museo del Design Italiano, will host the Design Platform: a space designated for temporary exhibitions with a focus on design today.

Marco Sammicheli is curator for the design, fashion and artisan sector of the Milan Triennale and director of the Italian Design Museum.
