Take home this rare golden boot signed by the Brazilian legend footballer Pelé.

This amazing item was signed in London on May 31, 2016 on the occasion of his event: An Evening with Pelé at Battersea Evolution.

Pelé is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time. In 1999, he was voted World Player of the Century and was elected Athlete of the Century by the IOC. That year, Time named him in their list of 100 most influential people of the 20th century. In 2013, he received the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award in recognition of his career and achievements as a global icon of football. According to the IFFHS, Pelé is the most successful league goal-scorer in the world, scoring 1,281 goals in 1,363 games. He was listed in the Guinness World Records for most career goals scored in football for this. In Brazil, he is hailed as a national hero for his accomplishments in football and for his outspoken support of policies that improve the social conditions of the poor.

The Cause

The IntoUniversity North Liverpool centre in Anfield is a collaboration between the University of Liverpool, the LFC Foundation and education charity IntoUniversity. The centre will provide 1000 local young people each year with a programme of personal and educational support which will enable them to succeed at school and beyond. With the support of the LFC Foundation, and inspired by engagement with a leading Premier League football club, young people will be motivated to overcome barriers to their future success. Through visits to the University of Liverpool, mentoring from university volunteers and specialist input from university academics, young people will have exceptional opportunities to focus and develop their knowledge and ambitions. The centre, which is based at Anfield Business Centre, will provide weekly after-school academic support during term time, one-to-one mentoring and will work with local primary and secondary schools to provide programmes that nurture young people’s aspirations. The centre’s work is distinctive because IntoUniversity starts working with children as young as seven, supporting them over the long term in order to achieve a university place or another chosen aspiration.
