Coffee table made from a single block of aromatic cedar wood and inspired in its scuptural design by the feline world. These wood products are completely natural and hand finished. The wood has not been treated and any alterations or cracks are a defining feature of this natural essence and are due to changes in environmental conditions.

Setsu & Shinobu Ito are both Japanese designers with a broad work experience in architecture, interior and space, surface, product, industrial and packaging design.

Setsu Ito began collaborating with leader of avant-garde italian design Alessandro Mendini at Studio Alchemia , and then with great master of modern architecture and design, Angelo Mangiarotti.

Shinobu Ito, graduated from Tama Art University in Tokyo, started her career for CBS Sony in Sony Creative Products and attained a Master Degree at Domus Academy, Milan.

They opened their design studio in 1997, and since then, they work and consult for international clients, in a wide range of activities ranging from interiors, industrial and artisan architecture as well as packaging design. They have received design awards such as: The Young & Design Award 1999 (Italy), "The Good Design Award 2001" (Japan), "La Toyama Product Design Award 2001" (Japan), selected for "ADI Design Index 2001, 2005" (Italy) and the Compasso d'Oro 2011 "(Italy).

The Cause

The Cooperative IL VOLO Onlus, with its headquarters in Monticello, was founded in 2000 thanks to a group of volunteers and mental health specialists, to help youth with psychiatric problems associated with personality disorders—specifically Borderline Personality Disorder—by designing and realizing structures and services for the cure as well as social and work re-insertment.

Personality disorders are conditions of grave psychiatric suffering characterized by an instability of emotions and interpersonal relationships. They are different from other mental issues in that personality disorders don’t deteriorate mental or cognitive functions, and if properly treated at a psychotherapeutic and rehabilitative level they can allow the patient who is suffering to live a life that is balanced socially and workwise.

After chasing this goal, VOLO has created and runs the Comunità Terapeutico-Riabilitativa “Villa Ratti” in Monticello Brianza (LC), which hosts twenty youths between the ages of 18 and 35.

The path of the patients in Villa Ratti lasts about 12-18 months and is based on a Therapeutic Rehabilitative Project which is done through a series of activities—daily, rehabilitative and psychotherapeutic on a few different leves such as personal, social and work.
