Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund (AIPF)

The Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund (AIPF) helps preserve the exceptional beauty and natural value of the Aeolian Islands, encourage more sustainable and responsible tourism, and promote the unique experiences that the local habitat offers.

To this end the AIPF raises money from people from all around the world who care about the future of the Aeolian Islands. The AIPF uses the funds raised to support local initiatives focused on sustainable development across five main areas: marine conservation, landscape protection (including local food), clean water, waste management and renewable energy.

AIPF is working with the BLUE Marine Foundation towards the creation of a marine protected area (MPA) across the Aeolian archipelago to restore fish stocks, support sustainable-artisanal fishing, reduce pollution and protect rare marine habitats and species. The fund has supported projects to clear the ancient pathways in Panarea in order to increase access for those who would like to experience the beautiful mountains and the nature of the island. AIPF also supported the Slow Food Foundation to plant edible gardens in schools, promote local food and sustainable agriculture, and promote a project by Marevivo to organize educational courses for children who became “Dolphins Guardians” with the responsibility to protect the environmental resources of their territory. AIPF is currently developing a network of local sustainable activities, from eco-snorkeling to eco-trekking, to encourage tourists to explore the Aeolian Islands while respecting its delicate ecosystem.
