The Black Sea (from Riverside Girls), 2014

50x50cm

Visual diary to discover the young generations of girls who live along the Danube River, from its mouth in Germany to the Black Sea. Print on museum photographic paper.

Chiara Fossati trained as a photographer at the Studio Fondazione Marangoni in Florence and at Goldsmith College in London (master in photography and urban cultures) and then joined the photographic collective CESURA. She also works as an assistant to the photographer Alex Majoli, also president of Magnum Photos. In the summer of 2014 she took part in the Danube Revisited: The Inge Morath Truck Project, where she held the dual - and unusual - role of photographer and truck driver. Since 2016 she has worked as a studio manager for the photographer Davide Monteleone and now for the artist Paolo Ventura. Since 2017 she has been teaching history of contemporary photography at the IED in Milan. In 2018 she won the Marco Pesaresi Award for contemporary photography with her project Villaggio dei Fiori. Since 2020 she has returned to the CESURA collective, with which she has just published her first book: Whatever.
